LEGO Ninjago Firstbourne – We bought a dragon! We bought a dragon. I can’t believe it, but we did, and it’s fabulous! This is a set I’ve had my eye on for a while and finally got it on sale!

I’m a huge fan of Ninjago and Dragons, so this set is a double win for me! It’s hands down one of the best dragons that LEGO has delivered. Why do I say that? Well, first it’s huge and they’ve made good use of all of that size with an epic wingspan and wings that flap.

They’ve also made it looks awesome and filled with design details – including printed parts around the head.

And then there’s the other stuff that comes with the set. A superb lineup of minifgures and a helicopter that is hands down one of the most unique that LEGO has done in a long time! (I have too many helicopters, but this one is allowable).

From the very beginning, I was impressed with how solidly built this thing is! I was also slightly perplexed by some of the intricacies that went inside the lower part of the build – turns out they’re some clever missile launching tricks.

This whole set is oozing with fun and detail and the LEGO Designers have managed to make the build really fun and not at all repetitive. This took me about 90 minutes beginning to end and I would happily do it all again!

LUCKY LEGO SET FIND! Discontinued Creator House score! Sometimes you are in the right place at the right time and spot something that you just didn’t expect to see! Especially not in a shop not known for good reductions.

This particular find was in David Jones here in Sydney. It’s a department store with a good selection of full-priced LEGO. Note the use of “full-priced”. So not somewhere to look for a bargain.

In this case, I was out on a lunchtime stroll and decided to pop in just in case. You know, as you do. After looking around for a little while, something looked out of place in the LEGO Creator section.

At first, I looked at it thinking it wasn’t real as it was a LEGO Set that was on my wishlist and is from a few years back that has long been discontinued. Then I picked up the box – which had clearly been found tucked away out back, so was a little beaten up. That’s when I saw a nice 33% off the original RRP! Nice! I’ll have that I thought.

Then I took it to the till. It rang up at 50% off. This lunchtime is getting better and better! Then I was asked to pay and it was another 20% off of that! So all up a saving of 60% on a discontinued, boxed LEGO set! Result!

LEGO CITY UPDATE 11: We’ve been hacked! Someone’s hacked some of the LEGO Train junctions to go outwards and that meant the train yard had to swap places with the living zone, and now I think it might be awesome!

This was one of those ideas that I just couldn’t get out of my head. Now I’d modified my junctions in that recent video to exit outwards, it meanst that some new opportunities could present themselves! Here’s that video if you haven’t seen it:

It did involve swapping the living zone and cargo areas around, but I think it was the right thing to do! The spaces like this seem to suit what’s in them that much better! The cargo area is now more compact thanks to those junctions and we now have a really good space for the LEGO Train workshop.

This change should also sit better with the harbour area which has a new home that I think will work well. And, in writing this, I think the Studsburg LEGO City might be getting a small leisure marina!

Moving our LEGO City living zone and train station over to the old cargo dept also feels like it has a better flow. But, giving the space resrictions I have, I’m going to move to using Brick built roads. The LEGO Train station also has a lot more space as you can see from the 60197 Train sitting comfortably in the station space.
