The LEGO Ideas Motorised Lighthouse 21335 was approved all the way back in June 2021 and has now become an official product. And boy oh boy have LEGO smashed this one out of the park! It is awesome!
Anyone that follows my channels knows I’m quite fond of lighthouses – checkout my Smuggle’s Cove Lighthouse moc. So, when I saw this I was a little bit excited (and sad as I don’t have room for a second lighthouse.

LEGO Ideas Submission
First, let’s have a look at the original LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse submission by Sandro Quattrini.
As you can probably tell, the scale is not quite the same as the final model. In fact, it’s not even Minifigure scale. But it looked lovely! Set on top of a rock with the same lighthouse keeper cottage and lighthouse tower. It’s a stunning build and you can see why it got to 10k votes!
The Final LEGO Set
But, what the LEGO designers have done is take that original idea and turn it into something truly magnificent! This is a LEGO Work of art in my books. Everything down to the rockwork looks polished to a new level.
The lighthouse itself features a full interior, removable back and rotating light. What is most impressive is that LEGO could have kept that simple. But instead, besides making it rotate, they also developed a special Fresnel lens piece – that’s what they use in real lighthouses! Wow!
Not to be outdone, the lighthouse keeper’s cottage is beautifully detailed inside and out. The outside look brilliantly uses the gold ingot bricks to make the corners look like classic brickwork. The interior also gets the same love and attention featuring a family shot of the lighthouse keeper and his family. And the fireplace works too. But what I love the most is the techniques used for the roof. It looks so polished and finished.
Throughout the rest of the set are details including a rowing boat and cave – which hides the on-off switch for the lighthouse motor and lights. The battery pack and motor are built into the rock base.
I for one am very excited about this set. I’m just trying to decide if I can justify the high price of this set. The motor and Powered Up features (motor and light) are probably 15-20% of the cost. I was trying to think of a comparable set and the best I could think of was the Vesta’s Wind Turbine.
But I’d love to know your thoughts about this set in the comments! Will you be buying it?
