LEGO City Classic Spot the difference build (set 6357)

March 3, 2019 By GJBricks Leave a Comment

Reading Time: 2 minutes

LEGO Classic Spot the difference building (6357). This was a set I acquired recently because I’m a big fan of the LEGO City Helicopter transports trucks. LEGO Set 6357 is the first one of those! This is a look at the build for these Vintage LEGO sets.

When I reviewed the latest LEGO City Heavy Cargo Transport (Set 60183) I already knew that it was a vehicle with a lot of history. I just hadn’t remembered how many Helicopter Transporters there had been, and also just how similar it was to this original set!

But, this video is meant to be about how these Classic LEGO sets had an instruction system we affectionately call “Spot the difference” building. That is to say that you have to figure out what changed between each stage of the LEGO Set Instructions.

Compared to Today

Compare that to today where it tells you not only what pieces are used, but how many. It then goes further and highlights on the instructions where they go! In these old sets, you had no such luxury. And as I build this set, you will see the number of mistakes I make where I’ve missed a part.

Given the classic nature of this set, I’ve also stopped at points through the build to highlight techniques used. Or the ideas and methods I liked. I had forgotten just how much good stuff these Classic LEGO sets taught me about layering and strength. The LEGO Designers deserve full Kudos for what they created all the way back then!

Needless to say, I’m stoked to have this set in my collection now!

Let me know what you think along with suggestions when you’ve finished watching the video and don’t forget to like it!
