LEGO Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition thoughts (#76405)

August 22, 2022 By GJBricks Leave a Comment

Reading Time: 2 minutes

I’ve been thinking a lot about the new LEGO Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition 76405. And I finally decided it’s time to share my thoughts on why I love and hate this set. It really is so polarising for everyone.

What I’m really worried about here is that LEGO has managed to create a LEGO Train set that doesn’t make anyone happy. And in this video, I’ll explain why.

For me, I wanted a more realistic Hogwart’s Express that I could run on my tracks OR display – much like LEGO did with the crocodile train. But what we got is something at an odd scale – tracks are 7 wide. The bogies don’t turn. You get a pitiful amount of station, and 4 sets of the same minifigures (almost the same). And all of that stuff we didn’t want for a ridiculously high price.

Why didn’t LEGO listen to the fans and community? This is sooooo far off the mark it’s not funny. I’m also worried that LEGO will consider this a train so when it does flop on its targets, their market research team will conclude that people don’t want LEGO Trains.

Please listen LEGO… We love LEGO trains. We want you to go back to the heyday of LEGO Trains. Remember those days? You made loads of side builds, trains, and wagons. It was amazing – and you made some of my all-time favourite sets.

But what do you think? Watch the video and let me know in the comments here or on YouTube.

About the LEGO Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition (76405)

The magic of the Harry Potter stories with a buildable, 1:32 scale replica of the most iconic vehicle in the Wizarding World. LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express – Collectors’ Edition (76405) is a spectacular build-and-display project for adult Harry Potter enthusiasts, which will enchant all who see it.

The engine features a detailed underside and a lever on the top that causes the train to rock with the motion of a steam train. A tender carries the engine’s supply of coal. The passenger carriage comprises 3 compartments, each depicting a classic scene: when Harry, Ron and Hermione meet in the series’ first film; when Professor Lupin saves Harry from the Dementor™ in the third film; and when Luna saves Harry from Draco’s spell in the sixth film. The model also depicts Platform 9¾ at King’s Cross Station, where the adult Harry and Ginny wait with their children, Lily, James and Albus, ready for Albus’s first trip aboard the amazing Hogwarts Express.
