LEGO Bricklink Order #7 and a PAB Cup – The neatest packing ever?

July 10, 2019 By GJBricks Leave a Comment

Reading Time: 2 minutes

LEGO Bricklink Order #7 and a PAB Cup – The neatest packing ever? These orders were about getting things moving and letting my minifigures come and go – you’ll see what I mean in the video. And I was also at the Sydney LEGO store and did a small PAB Cup that I was rather proud of!

As I’ve said in a few of my videos and my recent roller coaster videos, I’ve been wanting to get into motorizing some of my city and also starting to add some articulation.

The second order is really, really boring! Unless you love building LEGO MOCs! Because what do buildings need more than anything? Windows and Doors! And I realised that I plain didn’t have any windows and doors. This changes that! Big Time!

And last, but by no means least, I did a small Pick-A-Brick Cup which I was rather proud of how it was packed – and of course how much potential is in the cup!

Let me know what you think along with suggestions when you’ve finished watching the video and don’t forget to like it!

Building a Custom LEGO Roller Coaster (Part 1 video)

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Building a Custom LEGO Roller Coaster (Part 1 video). I’ve mentioned a few times that I was going to combine 2 Unikitty Unikingdom Fairground Fun sets (41456) with some extra track pieces. This is the first version of my LEGO Roller Coaster track and I’ve learned a few things already!

Here’s the Bricksonville video I mentioned: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KGwdaYEMuU

Combining the two roller coasters is easy enough. But extending the track and making the layout more interesting is not as easy – but it is a lot of fun.

In this video I’ll talk through some of the design challenges and thoughts on them. I’ll show you what I’ve built – and how much fun it is to play with. And what I’m going to do to improve and change it.

LEGO City Deep Space Rocket and Launch Control Review Video! 60228

June 21, 2019 By GJBricks Leave a Comment

Reading Time: 3 minutes

LEGO City Deep Space Rocket and Launch Control Review Video! 60228. LEGO has returned to space in a big way! Not quite the same as the Classic LEGO Space theme, this year there are 6 sets sending LEGO to Mars. A big set that’s not a long build but it is a lot of fun. This is an unboxing, speed build, and video review! Let me know what you think in the comments.

If you want to skip through the video as it is long, the key times are:
TOY Unboxing: 3:03
LEGO Speed Build: 5:13
Review Start: 9:46
Geode: 14:56
The Rocket: 15:21
Control Centre: 21:42
LEGO Minifigures: 29:08
Spare bricks: 32:15
LEGO Review Conclusion: 35:12

This is a big set and takes up a lot of space. Featuring the roller coaster used as a fun little monorail build. The control centre features some superb details and unexpected features.

With 6 minifigures, a robot and a rover to add to it, this is a set that has loads of playability! The rover features a new for this year grabber piece and the set also includes the gorgeous new Geode pieces.

Overall I really enjoyed this set. The build was excellent and the end model is a lot of fun!

But there’s more coming! I’m going to be upgrading the launch control building to something inspired by NASA and their launch control centres such as the iconic APOLLO 11 Mission Control – which was recently restored. The pad will be getting some new details added. I will also be laying the whole set out differently and placing it in a crazy part of our Custom LEGO City of Studsburg. Stay tuned for that!

Be sure to check out the real-time build of this set if you want to watch a relaxing LEGO Build: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TPV9TU43x4

And join me again soon when I place the rocker into our Custom LEGO City of Studsburg. I think you’ll like it and be surprised and delighted!

Talking LEGO Set Moc-Ability with @DrMcBrick

June 16, 2019 By GJBricks Leave a Comment

Reading Time: 2 minutes

I’ll be talking about how the Moc-Ability potential of some LEGO sets with @DrMcBrick. We’re both going to pick a couple of sets from our backlogs and talk about what we think could be done to turn them into something better. But we’d love you involvement in making other suggestions or improvements to our ideas.

The phrase MOC means My Own Creation. So what we’re talking about is how to take a set and use it as a foundation to build something better or use it as the foundation to build a full MOC.

An simple example might be taking the Flinstones set and then building it out to be more like the original LEGO Ideas submission. That would mean making it bigger, more detail inside, etc. But you’ve taken that original set and built on it.

A more extreme example is to take something like Hogwarts castle and turn it into a church.

We’ll talk about some ideas we have for the sets in our backlogs and what we are planning to do and how.

Let me know what you think along with suggestions when you’ve finished watching the video and don’t forget to like it!

LEGO City Space Haul from Mars via LEGO Shop at home!

June 14, 2019 By GJBricks Leave a Comment

Reading Time: 4 minutes

LEGO City Space Haul from Mars via LEGO Shop at home! When LEGO said they were going back into Space I was super excited! And just like NASA they decide that a mission to the Red Planet of Mars was on the cards!

So you’ve guessed by this point it is a LEGO City Space set, but which one? TBH, there’s a good chance I’ll collect them all over the next year as I think they’re excellent. But this is on that my wife saw and said “You have to get that!”. I didn’t hesitate and ordered it there and then before she changed her mind!

One thing I do love though, is how much inspiration they took from NASA on the designs of these sets – I’m surprised they didn’t actually involve them TBH. But glad to see this happening! And I am over the moon (see what I did there!) that LEGO is back in Space!

The good thing about this order was that I got to use some expiring points, but also got the free exclusive LEGO Space Rocket Ride (40335)! Excellent.

For good measure I also order a Power Functions XL Motor for powering some of my theme parks rides. That motor should easily power 3 or 4 rides with some clever gearing. That will include the Ferris wheel (10247), Carousel (10257) and Pirate Roller coaster (31084). So keep an eye out for my videos on that motorisation process!

Let me know what you think along with suggestions when you’ve finished watching the video and don’t forget to like it!
