LEGO Train Ideas Book 7777 – Inspiration for your LEGO City Railway!

December 4, 2018 By GJBricks Leave a Comment

Reading Time: 2 minutes

LEGO TRAIN IDEAS BOOK 7777 – INSPIRATION FOR YOUR LEGO CITY RAILWAY! All about 4.5V and 12V LEGO Trains. This is my favourite LEGO book and this is why!

Originally published in 1981, the 7777 LEGO Ideas Book is focused solely on trains. And, in my opinion, this was one of the best times for trains in LEGO’s history! Check out my other LEGO Train videos.

Why do I think that? Well, we had some classic trains for starters. The 7740 train is one of my all time favourites! Side note: I’ve set myself a goal to build a modern version of this classic!

You’ve also got two of the other ones I mention in the video. The 7730, 7750 and 7760. Both very classic designs from the golden age of LEGO Trains. Although I am a big fan of the Newest LEGO City Passenger Train 60197

But, it’s not just about the trains. There’s all of the supporting accessories and builds. The two standards at this time were the 12V mains (central rail system) and the 4.5V Battery systems.

Then there’s the signal lights, all controlled by big buttons that could be connected to the main train control system to name one example. There were also powered lights, junctions, etc. It was epic.

Cool LEGO Train Accessories

And – yes, there’s more – you could buy loads of cool accessories (like railway crossings), add-on carriages and carts. Train stations and sheds… You name it, they had. It really was a viable alternative to the Model Railway made by the likes of Hornby.

Then, because all of that wasn’t enough, they go and release awesome books like this to supplement all of that! In it, they show you ways to configure and build on the official sets. Ideas and instructions to build your own trains and buildings. Some interesting stories and some amazing designs you always wished you had enough parts to make!

This is why I love this book! But be sure to check out the video to see more of it and just how happy this book makes me!

Let me know what you think about this book. Did/do you have it? What were your favourite ideas? Do you think LEGO needs to bring back the golden age of LEGO trains? When you’ve finished watching the video and don’t forget to like it on YouTube!
